The maiden edition of LCB Worldwide Company Limited corporate soccer tournament was on Monday launched to foster unity and working relationship among corporate institutions in Tema.

Eight selected companies were set to battle out for the ultimate prize of GH¢4,500, while second and third placed teams would receive GH¢3,000 and GH¢1,500 respectively.

The teams were LCB Worldwide Limited, Willmar Ghana Limited, Hill Pok Africa Limited, Pioneer Food Cannery, Plan B FM, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Fire Service, Hot Jobs Limited and Nick Scan Limited.

The opening fixtures last Saturday saw LCB Worldwide fall 0-2 to Hill Pork, while Pioneer Food Cannery kowtowed to Willmar Gh in a 4-0 scoreline.

Plan B FM emerged as top scorers in the second opening game on Sunday with a thumping 5-0 win against Nick Scan Limited, while Hot Jobs conceded 3-0 goals from GPHA Fire Service.

Subsequent fixtures would include GPHA Fire Service vs Plan B FM and Nick Scan vs Hot Jobs on Saturday July 16, while Willmar Gh and Hill Pok lock horns with LCB Limited and Pioneer Food Cannery respectively on Sunday, July 17.

Pioneer Food would take on LCB Worldwide while Willmar Gh vs Hill Pok on Saturday, July 23. On Sunday, July 24, Nick Scan would play GPHA Fire Service, while Hot Jobs takes on Plan B FM.

According to the facilities manager of LBC Limited, Mustapha Mohammed, the selection criteria of the companies was informed by their close formal working relationship with the companies.

He, however, stated that the working relationship between these institutions had routinely remained formal without the opportunity to interact, familiarise and build working networks and relationships with each other, hence the tournament.

The football competition would provide the platform for the workers to communicate and share working experiences and build stronger ties towards productivity, he added.

Human Resource Manager of LCB Worldwide Limited Mohammed Awudu expressed appreciation to the participating companies and promised an exciting tournament to entertain and build networks among them.

He disclosed that the top goal scorer would be awarded a golden boot, best goalkeeper, a golden hand gloves and a participation plaque award for all the football players from each institution.
