Man remanded for flogging daughter

A 48-year-old father who whipped his 20-year-old daughter for damaging a padlock after arriving home late was on Friday remanded in police custody by the Assin Fosu District Court.

The accused, Abraham Amoh Blankson, who faces charges of assault and causing harm, is scheduled to appear before court on Thursday.

This decision came after the prosecution, Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng, requested the court to grant the police sufficient time for further investigations.

The court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, heard that the complainant is Blankson’s daughter, Esther Amoh Blankson, hairdressing apprentice, residing in Old-Praso, a suburb of Twifo Praso in the Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.

Insp Buabeng said the victim, who was living with the father, left home for work in the morning and returned on Saturday night.

The court heard that Blankson, who had waited for the victim in vain, changed the lock to the door.

Insp Buabeng stated that the daughter asked for the keys and the accused in a fit of anger, instructed her to return to where she came from.

The prosecution said the daughter became frustrated, broke the padlock and entered the room.

Insp Buabeng further noted that when Blankson discovered the padlock was damaged, he threatened his daughter with physical harm.

The prosecution said the victim sought temporary refuge at her stepmother’s house.

Insp Buabeng also indicated that when the victim returned home, she realised that her father had taken GH¢360.00 from her handbag.

The court heard that when the daughter demanded her money, the father refused, saying  she would get her money back only when she had replaced the damaged padlock.

Insp Buabeng said unhappy with her father’s demand, the victim reacted with a scoff and left the presence of her father and his employees.

The prosecution said this provoked accused and he whipped the daughter mercilessly with an electrical cable, causing injuries to her body. —GNA
