Man remanded for possessing Shisha

An unemployed man, who was arrested in possession of two table tennis ball shaped drugs, suspected to be Shisha, concealed in a bag, has been remanded into police custodyby an Accra Circuit Court.

Habib Haruna, also known as (aka) “Barrister”, who was charged with possession of narcotic drugs, had his plea preserved.

The court presided by Helen Ofei turned down a bail application by Mr Yaw Dankwah, counsel for Haruna.

He would appear again on February 7.

The court further directed prosecution to procure the laboratory analysis of the drugs within 30 days and the stateto file its disclosures within 14 days.

Mr Dankwah prayed the court to admit his client to bail to enable him to prepare for his defence, but the court refused the request.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Charles Chester prayed the court to remand accused,saying the police was conducting further investigations into the matter.

Prosecution said the complainants were police officers of the National Operations Unit of the CriminalInvestigations Department, and accused resident of Kotobabi in Accra.

ASP Chester said the complainants spotted accused and another man on a motorcycle.

The court heard that the police stopped them, but they sped off , and the police chased them,and arrested accused, but the  accomplice escaped.

ASP Chester said when Haruna was searched,two table tennis ball shaped substances, suspected to be Shisha concealed in a black polythene bag and GH ¢300.00 were found, which he claimed ownership.

He said the police would forward the alleged substance to the Police Forensic Laboratory for testing. – GNA
