Matrix Netball Club emerged champions of the inaugural Naana Kakie’s Foundation Girls Netball Empowerment Competition, defeating Generations in a thrilling final to lift the title. The tournament, organised by Naana Kakie’s Foundation, was designed to create HIV/AIDS awareness among girls under 17 years while identifying young leaders to serve as peer education ambassadors in schools and communities across the Ada State.

A total of eight clubs from various communities in Ada participated in the competition. They included Matrix (Big Ada), Generations (Dorgobom), Super X (Koluedor), Maidens (Mahem), Golden Queens (Matsekope), Future Queens (Toflokpo), Modesroses (Dogo), and Dynamos (Korlekope).

Matrix dominated the group stage, winning all three of their matches, scoring an impressive 40 goals while conceding just five. Generations also performed strongly, topping their group with two wins and a draw, while Super X finished second in the same group.

In the semifinals, Matrix delivered a dominant performance, thrashing Super X 11–0, while Generations defeated Dynamos 10–4 to secure a place in the final.

The final lived up to expectations. Generations took an early lead, finishing the first half 5–2 ahead. However, Matrix staged a spirited comeback in the second half to level the score at 7–7, forcing two minutes of extra time. Matrix then scored the decisive goal to secure a dramatic 8–7 victory and claim the maiden title.

In the third-place playoff, Super X defeated Dynamos 5–1 to claim the bronze medal. Matrix’s Gloria Wussah was named Best Shooter of the tournament, receiving a medal and a pack of soft drinks.

All travelling teams received transportation subsidies, sanitary pads, and soft drinks, while the top three teams were rewarded with trophies and additional sanitary pads from the Naana Kakie’s Foundation. Additionally, ten outstanding players were selected to undergo training as HIV/AIDS education ambassadors in their schools and communities.

The successful maiden edition highlights the use of sport as a tool for youth empowerment, health education, and community development in Ada State, marking a significant step toward creating opportunities for young girls while promoting awareness of critical health issues.
