The Ministry of Health on Wednesday presented health equipment worth $1.56 million to four government institutions to advance healthcare delivery.
The beneficiaries, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) received an ambulance each to enhance emergency care while a water tanker was donated in addition to the TTH to improve water supply.
Presenting the items, the Minister of Health designate, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, said that the donation was upon a request made by the government of Ghana to the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to support quality healthcare delivery in the country.
“As a country, we have benefitted from the long and successful relationship with the government of Japan which dates back several years through technical assistance, grant aid and donation of equipment and commodities,” he said.
The minister designate mentioned projects, including the African Health and Well-being Initiative, the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) drive and COVID-19 response as some initiatives the Japanese government was supporting Ghana on.
The Chief Director of the MOH, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, in a remark, expressed the ministry’s resolve to attain UHC by 2030, therefore appealing to all stakeholders and partners to put their shoulders to the wheel to realise the goal.
“UHC is a collective responsibility and all hands must be on deck to attain it,” he stated.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Deputy Chief of Staff (Medical) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Major General Raymond Ewusi, expressed profound gratitude for the gesture done them, pledging that the equipment would be used for their intended purposes
