Sixteen years after Ghana’s historic triumph, Morocco have etched their name into the elite circle of FIFA U-20 World Cup winners.

The Atlas Lion Cubs stunned six-time champions Argentina with a commanding 2-0 victory on Sunday at the Julio Martínez Prádanos Stadium in Santiago, Chile, to claim their first-ever global title.

Inspired by a dazzling display from Yassir Zabiri, who netted both goals in a man-of-the-match performance, Morocco produced a flawless display that left the South Americans with no response.

Under the tactical guidance of Coach Mohamed Ouahbi, the young Moroccans showcased a perfect blend of defensive discipline and fearless attacking football. Zabiri, the tournament’s breakout star, sealed a famous win with his brace and finished as the Golden Boot winner with five goals.

Just months after finishing runners-up at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco have now conquered the world — a testament to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s (FRMF) successful youth development programme.

The North Africans also swept major individual awards, highlighting their dominance in Chile.

With this historic feat, the Atlas Lion Cubs have written their names in gold, inspiring a new generation of African footballers and reinforcing Morocco’s growing stature on the global stage.
