Hundreds of Journalists and MTN staff forming the MTN Media Republic took part in the first of its bi-yearly health and fitness walk on Saturday.

Saturday’s walk was christened the ‘Nana Kwesi Gyan Apenteng edition’ to celebrate the late member of the group who was the Apagyahene of Tafo Eti in the Eastern Region and a former chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC).

Featuring journalists from several media houses from the capital, the over two-hour walk started at the MTN Head Office at Ridge.

They went through the Ridge area, National Theatre, Ministry Police Station area, Accra Sports Stadium, State House, the Police Headquarters area and turned to the starting point.

It was followed by an intense aerobic session led by a physical instructor.

Participants used the occasion to pay glowing tributes to the late Nana Kwesi Gyan Apenteng.

Mrs Georgina Asare Fiagbenu said Nana Kwesi Gyan-Apenteng would be remembered for his commitment and loyalty to the group.

“Nana Kwesi Gyan-Apenteng was with us the last time we met in December. He is always with us unless he’s not in the country. He’ll be remembered for his commitment and his love for journalism. He was always there to coach us, teach us and share ideas.”

Madam Afua Serwaa Asafo Adjei described Nana’s demise as a big loss for the MTN Media Republic where he acted as chief electoral officer and also shared his experience with members, both young and old.

“Nana was always there for us. We all tapped into his experience as a top media practitioner. He advised us on all matters related to life and he was a good friend to all. May he Rest in Peace,” she said.

Commenting on the health walk, she described it as a platform to get both journalists and the MTN staff to walk and exercise to stay fit and also enjoy the sun and sweat a little.

“Today’s exercise is a wellness and physical one. We have been working for the past six months and it is important that we ease the stress, walk and sweat a little.”

The President of the group, Naa Dzagbley Ago Quaye, urged journalists to read the books written by the late NMC Chairman which are very educative.

She thanked MTN Ghana for sustaining the health walk, an exercise she said was needed to get the media practitioners on to a single platform to exercise to stay fit.
