MTN Ghana, in partnership with the Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate and Suncity Radio, has organised a health walk and free health screening in Sunyani to promote physical fitness and encourage residents to undergo regular health checks.
The exercise attracted a large number of residents, including members of keep-fit clubs and football enthusiasts, who marched through some principal streets of the municipality to the accompaniment of brass band music.
The participants later converged at the Sunyani Coronation Park for a workout session.
The health walk and screening formed part of activities marking this year’s SunCity Fest, a community engagement initiative by MTN Ghana aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening its engagement with communities within its operational areas.
The Municipal Health Promotion Officer of the Sunyani Municipal Hospital, Ms Justine Takyiwaa, said participants were screened for a range of health conditions.
The screening covered blood pressure (BP), HIV, eye conditions, ear, nose and throat (ENT) conditions, breast examination, Hepatitis B and general medical consultation, among others.
She said all the services were provided free of charge and participants found to have serious health conditions would be referred to specialised health facilities for further examination and treatment.
The Bono Regional Manager of MTN Ghana, Mr Kofi Owusu, said the initiative formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts to support customers and give back to the communities where it operated.
He said the exercise was also intended to raise awareness about the importance of regular health checks and encourage residents to adopt healthy lifestyles.
“We are expecting at least 500 people to be screened at the end of the exercise,” he said.
Mr Owusu said, as part of efforts to improve customer service and accessibility, MTN Ghana had also opened a new office branch in Berekum, with shops serving customers in Berekum, Dormaa Ahenkro, Sampa and other parts of the region.
The Chief Executive Officer of Suncity Group of Companies, Mr Ransford Antwi, urged residents to take advantage of the free screening to know their health status and seek medical attention promptly where necessary.
He said regular health checks were important for identifying potential health conditions early and promoting healthier communities.
