Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany confirmed yesterday midfielder Jamal Musiala would not be back in time for this week’s Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart as he continues to manage a neurological condition.

The 23-year-old Germany international collapsed twice on the pitch in the span of four days during Bayern’s pre-season friendlies in August.

After the second collapse, Musiala revealed he is suffering from a “neurological disorder” which can lead to “temporary but treatable seizures”.

Musiala missed Bayern’s 2-1 German Super Cup victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Despite returning to training this week, Kompany said he would not play in Friday’s home clash.

“Generally speaking, Jamal is doing pretty well,” Kompany told reporters.

“He is taking part in team training today but is not yet in the squad for tomorrow.”

On Friday, Bayern confirmed a change in treatment contributed to Musiala’s collapses, including reducing the amount of medication he took for the condition.

“He’s getting used to the increased medication,” Kompany said Thursday.

“He’ll be back in the squad at some point and play. We’re making the decision in consultation with the experts. He’s doing well.”-AFP
