The Ghana Manganese Company (GMC), Cosco Shipping Lines and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) have announced the arrival of a vessel named the MV CBS YEARS at the Port of Takoradi on Tuesday, January 27.

According to the GMC, the arrival of the capacity of 300,000 DWT vessel, marks a significant business turning point for GMC in line with its 10 million target for 2026.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the GMC Port HR/Administrative Superintendent, Kofi Gyetsua Ankuma, and copied to The Ghanaian Times yesterday.

“This will ultimately increase bulk export shipment through Takoradi Port and by extension, increase export revenue for the GPHA and the country as a whole,” the statement said.

In preparation of the vessel’s arrival, the statement noted that GMC sponsored selected GPHA marine operations staff (pilots) to China to participate in advanced simulation and berthing exercises.

The exercises, it said, were structured to mirror hydraulics, mechanics and navigational protocols for cape size vessels to ensure controlled, predictable, safe berthing and cargo loading operations under local command.

Additionally, the statement said that GPHA had to draw up a comprehensive Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) to guide the vessel’s operation.

“Further, GMC and GPHA have had to further engage a third party to the unberthing maneuvering of the vessel to ensure real time UAV surveillance of the vessel’s operation for monitoring and safety purposes,” it added.

An inauguration ceremony expected to be organised to welcome the vessel, the statement said, would attract senior government officials, industry leaders, international shipping partners, and key stakeholders from across the maritime and logistics sectors to formally mark this historic achievement.

“It will also demonstrate our collective commitment to infrastructure development, professional capability, cross-sector collaboration, skills development, and the long-term growth of maritime trade. GMC is committed to contributing its quota to sustainable national economic growth,” it stressed.
