The Nandom Municipal Assembly in the Upper West Region has handed over a number of completed development projects to beneficiary communities to improve access to essential social services and infrastructure.
The projects, covering healthcare, education, water supply and security, were handed over during a two-day development tour of the municipality by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nandom, Mr Richard Kuuire, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Anthony Ziniel, last Tuesday and Wednesday.
The exercise, dubbed “Celebrating Development in Nandom Municipality,” brought together officials of the Assembly, the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Police Service and other security agencies, as well as chiefs, elders, pupils and residents of the beneficiary communities. Present was the Lambusie District Police Commander, ASP Andrews Asiedu Banafo, who stood in for the Nandom Municipal Police Commander.
Among the projects handed over were Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Tokuu and Bapula.
The facilities are expected to bring basic healthcare services closer to residents, particularly women, children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups.
In education, two-unit kindergarten blocks were handed over at Zimuopare, Ko-Bukong and Betaglu, while a Junior High School block at Monyupelle was also handed over to the community.
The Assembly also handed over a police post at Kokoligu to strengthen security presence and improve access to policing services in the community and surrounding areas.
To address challenges associated with access to potable water, the Assembly provided five mechanised pumps at Goziir Nuruyir, Bu, Tuopare, Tankyaraa and Kusiele.
Ten additional hand pumps were provided at Bu, Bapula, Kokoligu, Kuutuuryir, Betaglu, Taayaga, Tokuu, Ginugangn, Dabagteng and Vapuo.
The water facilities are expected to reduce the distance and difficulties residents face in accessing potable water and contribute to improved sanitation, hygiene and general well-being.
The projects form part of development interventions undertaken in the municipality during the less-than-two-year tenure of the MP and the MCE.
The commissioning and handing-over exercise also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to assess the completed infrastructure and their expected impact on the beneficiary communities.
The communities were urged to take ownership of the facilities, use them responsibly and ensure their proper maintenance to prolong their lifespan.
They were also encouraged to work closely with the relevant government institutions and the Assembly to protect the facilities against vandalism and other forms of misuse.
The Assembly said it remained committed to collaborating with traditional authorities, government agencies, development partners and local communities to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life of residents across the Nandom Municipality.
The exercise also provided an opportunity for residents and community leaders to interact with the MP, MCE and other officials on their development needs and the effective utilisation of the newly completed facilities.
