A late penalty scored by Ivorian import Amidou Diarra saved Premier League new boys Nations FC from defeat as they held visiting Asante Kotoko to a 2-2 draw at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.
After an action-packed first half on a rain-soaked pitch, it was the home side that took the lead from a Henry Ansu own goal on 50 minutes when he directed a cross past his goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim.
Nations FC guarded the goal jealously until substitute Steven Dese Mukwala directed a Kalo Ouattara strike past goalkeeper Rabin Ousmane in post for Nations FC for a Kotoko equaliser.
Four minutes after that effort, Kotoko took the lead from another substitute Michael Kyei Dwamena who finished off a move initiated by Richmond Lamptey.
When all pointed to a victory for the Reds, an injury time penalty expertly converted by Diarra drew parity for Nations FC in a game that was marred by fans of both clubs who threw objects to the pitch and in the process disrupting play for over 10 minutes.
