The Gender-Based Violence Court has sentenced a 24-year-old man, Emmanuel Charway, to 15 years in prison in hard labour for having sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old girl at Teshie, Accra.
Charway, who claimed to be native doctor, was charged with defilement and threat of death, pleaded guilty.
The court, presided over by Dora Eshun, convicted Charway based on his plea.
Police Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, prosecuting told the court that the complainant is the father of the victim, accused, Charway, resides at Teshie.
The court heard that on March 20, this year, at about 5pm, the victim, an 11-year-old girl, was on her way home from school when she encountered Charway.
Chief Insp Aniagyei said Charway engaged her in a brief conversation and gave her GH¢ 10.00 to buy him a beverage drink and biscuit.
The prosecution said when the girl returned with the biscuit and cola drink, Charway lured her into his room, carnally molested her.
After the act, Charway offered the victim the drink and biscuit, and threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone, not even her parents, or he would kill her, according to Chief Insp Aniagyei.
The prosecution stated that when the victim returned home, she narrated her ordeal to her father, who reported the case to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Nungua, Accra.
Chief Insp Aniagyei further noted that the complainant obtained a medical form from DOVVSU and took the girl to the hospital for examination and treatment.
The court heard that based on a medical report, Charway was arrest. -GNA
