The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday successfully conducted the balloting for the five aspirants vying for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2026 general election. The exercise took place at the NPP headquarters in Accra.

The process determined the order in which the candidates will appear on the ballot paper and the notice of polls, marking a key milestone toward the presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Following the transparent balloting supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, the candidates drew the following positions:

  1. Mr Kennedy Agyapong – Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central
  2. Dr Bryan Acheampong – MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Agriculture
  3. Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia – Former Vice President
  4. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum – Former Minister of Education
  5. Mr Kwabena Agyepong – Former Presidential Press Secretary and NPP General Secretary

Reactions from campaign teams

Speaking after the exercise, Mr Kwaku Amoh Darteh, Director of Communications for the Ken Agyapong campaign, described the outcome as a positive sign.

“It was just five candidates, and the process was open. Each candidate had representatives who picked their own numbers. We have no issues with the balloting. Being number one is a sign of victory for Mr Kennedy Agyapong, and we are confident that our hard work across the country will deliver an emphatic win,” he said.

He added that their campaign had covered all constituencies and effectively shared their message of empowerment and transformation with delegates.

Dr Ekua Amoakoh, Deputy Spokesperson for the Bawumia campaign, also expressed optimism:

“Dr Bawumia has served the party diligently and contributed immensely to Ghana’s economic growth. The grassroots recognise his value and will vote massively for him.”

Similarly, Mr Yaw Opoku Mensah, spokesperson for Dr Adutwum, said the former Education Minister’s transformational achievements had inspired confidence among party delegates.

Party reaffirms commitment

A statement signed by Mr William Yamoah, Secretary to the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic values, transparency, and fairness throughout the electoral process. The party also thanked all aspirants, their teams, and EC officials for their cooperation.
