‘NPP should accept defeat in 2020 elections’

Madam Naana Ampem addressing the participants after the walk

The Eastern Regional Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Shirley Naana Ampem, has called for prayers for the presidency in order to have the strength to accept defeat in the 2020 elections.

She said the presidency and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should emulate the statesmanship exhibited by former President John Mahama who accepted defeat in the 2016 Presidential election, despite some reservations.

Addressing supporters of the NDC after ‘Ramadan Health Walk’ organised by the Zongo Caucus wing of the New Juaben South constituency in Koforidua on Sunday, Madam Naana Ampem noted that “from here let’s remember Ghana in prayers for Allah to continuously grant us peace so that when NDC wins the 2020 elections, they [NPP government] will accept defeat and hand over peacefully just like what former President Mahama did in 2016.

“The way and manner the NPP government removed the former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei and appointed Jean Mensa suggests that the NPP wants to circumvent the electoral system against the will of the people,” she cautioned.

The Eastern Regional Vice Chairman of NDC, William Atamudzi, called on the president to implement the recommendations of the Justice Emile Short Commission report on the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election to affirm his true commitment to the fight against political vigilantism.

Ahmed Mikano Tijani, the of the Health Walk, the Zongo Caucus Coordinator for New Juaben South Constituency, said the purpose of the exercise was to foster unity among supporters of the party and them to enter into the Ramadam fasting which is a few weeks ahead.
