The National Sports College (NSC) has launched its first-ever Strength and Power Training course, aiming to collaborate with leading universities to elevate sports training and performance standards nationwide.

The initiative underscores the college’s commitment to offering structured programmes that enhance technical skills, refine coaching methods, and improve athlete management.

Speaking at the launch of the three-day course, Mr. Bawah Fuseini, Director General of NSC, explained that the programme focuses on equipping coaches with the skills needed to build athlete readiness from warm-ups to peak performance.

For the first time, NSC partnered with the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) to organise the course, which had been in development for several months. Mr. Bawah highlighted the institution’s remarkable transformation, marked by the launch of major courses within the sports ecosystem.

He also revealed that NSC is actively exploring a partnership with Louisiana State University (LSU) in the United States to establish an exchange programme. LSU is renowned for its championship-winning athletic programmes, with expertise in sports science, coaching education, athlete development, and human performance research.

Mr. Bawah encouraged participants to fully engage with the course, noting that it marks the beginning of a series of high-profile programmes that the college plans to introduce.

Dr. Kyle Pierce, lead facilitator and senior professor from LSU, praised the participants’ enthusiasm, calling it a positive step toward future achievements. “My passion is coaching education. There is nothing more rewarding than the work of coaches. They help athletes get from one place to another while developing their skills,” he said.

He also commended the Director General and senior staff for their dedication to the development of sports in Ghana.

The course, which concluded yesterday, attracted over 30 coaches drawn from various football clubs and national federations. The launch was attended by Mr. Collins Adu Eduafo, Technical Director at NSC; Mr. Francis Oti Akenteng, former Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association; and other senior officials.
