Private health insurance company, Octaplus Health, has unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered digital character, Xaida, as part of efforts to integrate technology into its operations and customer engagement.

Xaida, a teenage digital character, will feature in the digital communication of the company as it seeks to make health insurance more accessible and easier to understand, particularly for younger and digitally connected audiences.

The technology was unveiled in Accra last Friday at a brief ceremony under the theme: ‘Innovation and the Future of Healthcare.’

The unveiling was attended by representatives of Octaplus Health, insurance brokers, human resource managers from companies enrolled in the company’s health insurance schemes, among other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Octaplus Health, Dr Dan Vincent Armooh, said the integration of AI had already helped the company make some processes faster and more efficient.

He said the development of Xaida formed part of the company’s broader approach to using technology to improve how it interacted with customers.

Dr Armooh said Xaida would be used primarily in Octaplus Health’s communication and digital content generation as the company expanded its use of technology in delivering health insurance services.

Octaplus Health’s adoption of technology, according to him, was ultimately aimed at improving the way people accessed and experienced healthcare, rather than making health insurance more complex.

“Technology should not make healthcare and health insurance feel more complicated. Instead, it should help make the experience more convenient, transparent and accessible,” he noted.

Dr Armooh said Xaida would, therefore, serve as a digital interface for communicating with members and engaging younger audiences, while the company’s digital platforms and technology-enabled processes would continue to support interactions with members, corporate clients and healthcare providers.

The Acting Board Chairman of Octaplus Health highlighted the company’s vision of ensuring speed, transparency and superior customer experience for all clients.

He said the adoption of AI was aimed at improving speed, transparency and the customer experience.

The National President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), Mr Michael Abbiw, in a remark, described Xaida as an innovative creation and said he looked forward to seeing how the character developed over time.
