The Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) last Monday launched the 6th edition of its awards scheme as part of efforts to recognize journalists for promoting stories on biotechnology agriculture.

The awards scheme was introduced to promote excellence in science journalism and appreciate the contribution of journalists in promoting sustainable agricultural technologies.

Applicants must include a brief synopsis of the stories submitted, a 150-word professional biography, a brief write up explaining the motivation for each story submitted, a digital passport-size photo, evidence of media accreditation membership or membership of a national media association and a copy of a national passport of Identification card.

Speaking at the launch, the National Coordinator of OFAB Dr Richard Ampadu-Ameyaw indicated that interested journalists must submit a maximum of three entries per category and may enter for more than one category.

Applicants, he said could only submit works within the period of June 22, 2023 to August 30, 2023.

Explaining, he mentioned that the culmination of the awards contest brings together OFAB country-level finalists from which the overall winners are selected.

“Each category will produce one category winner and a runner-up. The winners of each category will be eligible to participate in OFAB Africa Media Awards (OMAS) scheduled for the end of the year,” he added.

Dr Ampadu-Ameyaw encouraged all eligible journalists to apply by submitting their entries to ofabghana@outlook.com.

He also urged Ghanaian media practitioners to give prominence to stories regarding food security while dispelling misconceptions surrounding Genetically Modified Foods in the country.
