Commuters and motorists travelling along the Ofankor-Nsawam stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway are battling severe traffic congestion and clouds of dust on sections of the road as work on the road expansion project slows, despite substantial progress.

The situation has left road users frustrated, with drivers appealing to the contractor to accelerate work and regularly water untarred sections to reduce the dust.

Thick clouds of dust raised by passing vehicles have reduced visibility and caused discomfort for both drivers and passengers.

Drivers, traders, shop owners, commuters and residents along the stretch have urged the contractor to water the road regularly, speed up construction and open completed sections to traffic to ease congestion.

When The Ghanaian Times visited the 33.4-kilometre stretch yesterday, only a handful of workers were seen at some sections, particularly around the Medie flyover, Pobiman and Sarpeiman.

Between Gaogao and Medie, commuters travelling to and from Nsawam were caught in heavy traffic because of the poor condition of the road.

The affected sections were riddled with potholes, making it difficult for drivers to navigate safely and smoothly.

The Medie flyover, which was scheduled for completion by the end of July 2026, was also yet to be completed and opened to traffic.

Sections of the road at Samsam, Sarpeiman, Pobiman, Medie and Doboro were particularly dusty, with the contractor, Messrs Meripoma Enterprise Limited, reportedly failing to water the road regularly in recent weeks.  Read More.
