The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi South, Ms Dakoa Newman, on Tuesday cut sod for the construction of a two-unit classroom block meant for a kindergarten for the Bubuahie One Basic School in Accra.
The project which is expected to be completed in five months comprised an office for the head teacher, four washrooms for the pupils and a shower.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Newman said that, the kindergarten department of the school shared same classroom with primary one due to lack of accommodation.
“It has come to my attention that due to lack of accommodation, the kindergarten department shares the same classroom with primary one and this would not help in building their academic confidence,” she stated.
The MP said she wanted Ghana to attain the Sustainable Development Goal 4, for children to get early access to quality education and prepare them for primary and adult education.
In his address, Mr Samuel Lartey Mantey, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Project Manager stated that the safety of the pupils was paramount and urged the contractor and teachers to take safety measures seriously during the construction period.
Mr Mantey appealed to the contractor to employ some of the youth in the area during the construction period.
The headmistress of the school, Ms Hannah Okyere thanked the MP for coming to their aid and promised that the facility would be used for its intended purpose and would be maintained.
