Oly fall to Wonders … Hearts pick point at Dormaa

Accra Great Olympics suffered a second defeat in a week after falling 2-1 to Techiman XI Wonders in a ninth week Ghana Premier League encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

Gladson Awako scored Oly’s only goal in the 24th minute in between Musa Sule and Ibrahim Salifu’s 13th and 32nd minutes goals.

Oly fought very hard in the second half in search of an equaliser but their attempt to push more men forward left them vulnerable at the back as Techiman Wonders threatened.

Ironically, Oly was the better of the two sides as they kept possession and made several inroads into the area of the visitors but failed to create any decent opening.

Against the run of play, Wonders launched their first attack and found themselves in the Oly goal area but their effort was cleared.

But they attacked again and this time found the back of the net when Sule struck from close range.

It was, indeed, a bitter pill for the AGOSU lads who had nothing to show for their dominance.

But the hosts kept probing and managed to get the equaliser through Gladson Awako whose shot beat John Kwadwo Moosie in goal for the visitors.

But just when Olympics attempt to establish their control again, they were stunned by a second goal from the visitors.

Dangerman Abdul Zakaria Mugeese capitalised on lousy defending on the left side of the Oly defence and crossed for Salifu to tap with the defenders caught ball watching.

Oly took control of the game from the 50th minute but on a day when nothing worked in their favour, it was clear they would suffer their fifth defeat of the season.

In one of the weekend’s enthralling fixtures, Accra Hearts of Oak held Aduana Stars to a grueling barren scoreline at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa with the two teams missing some decent opportunities on the afternoon.

Attendance was very impressive, but the fans left without celebrating a goal on the day.
