Police arrest 9 in Fiapre robbery incident

Nine suspects have been arrested by the Bono Regional Police Command in connection with a robbery at Fiapre Zongo, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality, which left two people dead and three others injured.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when the suspects allegedly alighted from a cattle truck travelling towards Berekum and attacked a mobile money vendor.

The suspects, some of whom were armed with AK-47 rifles, allegedly fired indiscriminately to scare residents before robbing the vendor.

In the ensuing confusion, Amina Abu, 30, a mobile money vendor, Khadija Abu, 23, Anifa Tanko, 24, and Ibrahim Osei, 40, were hit by pellets and rushed to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the nine suspects were assisting the police with investigations.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Amina Abu was robbed of GH¢30,000 during the incident.

The police said the suspects fled the scene in the cattle truck after the robbery. Personnel at the Twumasikrom checkpoint on the Fiapre-Berekum road were subsequently alerted to intercept the vehicle.

However, Ibrahim Osei, who reportedly came out of his room during the incident, was shot and died on arrival at the hospital.

An unidentified man, who was allegedly wearing a mask and was also injured during the incident, later died while receiving treatment.

The Police Command said efforts were underway to track down other suspects believed to have escaped.

It urged the public to remain calm, assuring residents that it was intensifying efforts to apprehend and prosecute all persons involved in the robbery.
