Three suspected armed robbers have been killed during a shootout with the police, last Thursday, at Boukrom Estate,in Kumasi.
One of the suspects was also arrested by the police.
Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Director General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, confirmed to story to the Ghanaian Times here.
He said based on intelligence gathered on a planned attack on a businessman at Buokrom Estate, in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police anti-robbery taskforce personnel launched a search and a screening operation.
During the search, the four suspects, all male adults, who were in a car, attempted to fire at the police.
The police, ACP Ofori said, fired back, leading to the gunshot wounds on the three suspects, who later died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Meanwhile, the police have recovered a pump-action gun, a revolver pistol, a locally manufactured pistol, a dagger, two black hoods, two pairs of scissors, and a quantity of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp.
“As we seek to combat crime in our communities and make it an unattractive venture, we will continue to count on the support and help of the public,”ACP KwesiOforimentioned.
On September 29, 2021,it is recalled, two suspected robbers were killed and one arrested by the police for attacking a gold dealer at Manso Dawusaso in the Amansie South District of Ashanti.
The deceased, who could not be identified, passed on at a hospital where he was receiving treatment after sustaining gunshot wounds.
But, the one arrested was identified as Abraham Kwasi Tetteh.
