Police Launch Probe into Attack on Jacobu Patrol Team

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into an incident in which a patrol team from the Jacobu District was attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum while performing routine duties.

The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, when officers recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and instructed him to inform the owner of the weapon to report to the police station with the relevant documentation.

According to a statement shared with The Ghanaian Times, the patrol team was subsequently confronted by a crowd of about 100 individuals who blocked the road and were armed with cutlasses and firearms.

The statement said the group assaulted the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle during the confrontation.

In the ensuing clash, the assailant who took possession of the service weapon was shot by the police, while another individual sustained injuries. The service rifle was later successfully retrieved.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command cautioned the public against attacks on law enforcement officers, warning that all perpetrators involved in the incident would be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.
