Police yet to receive O’Reilly murder docket for A-G’s advice

The police prosecutor in the murder case of O’Reilly Senior High School student has told the La Magistrate Court that the police are yet to receive the docket for the advice from the Attorney-General’s office.

Consequently, the court presided over by Mrs Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi, adjourned the case to November 4.

On October 8, 2024, the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei told the court that the docket had been forwarded to the Attorney-General for advice.

Yesterday, when the case was called, the father of the deceased, Mr Sackey expressed disquiet about the way prosecution was handling the case, and threatened to storm the school if justice is denied the family of the deceased, Edward Bortekey Sackey.

With this latest development, the Attorney-General is expected to write and file at the District Court an allegation of the crime, called a bill of indictment, which serves as the charge sheet of the case.

This will enable the District Court to now commence the committal proceedings where the magistrate will determine whether there is sufficient reason for the accused person to stand trial at the High Court on the charge recommended by the Attorney-General.

In the meantime, the accused, Godwin Mawuli, has been remanded for two weeks to appear again on November 4, 2021.

The presiding magistrate advised the accused to request legal representation before the next

 adjourned date.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased has announced that his son would be buried on October 18, this year.

The late Sackey, a general arts student of the school, was allegedly murdered by the accused after a disagreement after an examination on campus.

A viral video shared on social media showed the victim in an unconscious posture lying on a white cloth on the floor. Other videos showed the victim being conveyed to the hospital by his colleagues
