A Policeman stationed at Sampa, a border town in the Bono Region, has been interdicted by the Ghana Police Service (GPS), for unprofessional misconduct.
Inspector Kennedy Mantey Ampofo was interdicted for allegedly handcuffing one Frank Kofi Adu and failing to take him through the due process.
The conduct of Insp Ampofo has also been referred to the Police Professional Standard Bureau, to allow for investigation into the matter.
A statement signed by the acting Bono Police Regional Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Patrick Okai Kodjoe, has stated.
The Ghanaian Times gathered that Adu, who is a cobbler in Suma Ahenkro, near Sampa, was reportedly handcuffed by the policeman, popularly known as Opete, who operates a drinking spot at Sampa, for his inability to settle GH¢2 debt on alcohol he bought.
The victim was said to have gone to the policeman’s drinking spot in the company of a friend to buy local gin, known as “akpeteshie”, but could not immediately redeem a debt of GH¢2.
