The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has inaugurated an e-library and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre at Bantama in the Ashanti Region.

The educational facility, located within the Bantama M/A School, was funded by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Francis Asenso Boakye.

The facility has been named “Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Community Library and Technology Hub”, an expression of gratitude by the MP for the president’s efforts aimed at enhancing the standard of education in the country.

President Akufo-Addo thanked the MP and people of Bantama for naming the e-library and ICT centre after him.

He also commended the people supporting the MP, and that as president he had always loved the legislator for his commitment and efficiency.

The President appealed to residents of the Constituency to retain Mr Asenso Boakye as their MP in the upcoming parliamentary election.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr Hayford Siaw, noted that the facility added to the existing 126 libraries dotted across the country.

He said the government under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo was responsible for 66 of those libraries.

Mr Siaw said the “uniqueness of the facility lies in the e-library component, owing to the vision and efforts of the MP”.

He said that in 2017, the country had only 349 books on the shelves of public libraries, but now the number of books had increased to 1.5 million.

Mr Siaw noted that naming the facility after the President was a way of thanking him for the nurture and tutelage the MP received from him (President) which has made him who he was today.

THE CEO also said, “Naming the facility after the President is also a way of thanking him for the many initiatives towards the promotion of education in Ghana. In the next 10 years, people will realise how relevant Nana Addo’s policies on education are.”

He mentioned that the president’s training instilled in him values such as honesty, hard-working, compassion, and other positive traits.

The MP recalled that right after assuming office as the MP, he realised as needful the provision of a platform that would enhance reading and learning among students in the constituency, hence his “efforts toward making sure each community gets a library and a technology hub”.
