The Prison Officers’ Wives Association (PROWA) has inaugurated its newly elected National Executives at the Ghana Prisons Service Headquarters in Accra, with a call on members to remain positive ambassadors of the service and continue serving as a strong support system for their husbands and families.
The Director-General of Prisons, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, in her keynote address, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the history of the association, while expressing appreciation to the outgoing executives for their dedication and service over the years.
She emphasised that behind every successful officer was a supportive family, noting that officers’ welfare formed the first pillar of the service’s “Think Prisons 360” agenda.
Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie outlined several welfare-focused initiatives aimed at supporting officers’ families, including an upcoming market project for prison officers’ wives.
She also announced the establishment of a nursery facility operating from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to provide childcare support and employment opportunities, as well as access to microfinance and small loans through MASLOC and scholarships through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
She further urged the new executives to intensify efforts to increase membership participation, stressing that every member was important regardless of status and encouraging inclusivity within the association.
In a farewell message delivered on behalf of the outgoing President, Mrs Mabel Adu-Awuku, encouraged the new leadership to rely on divine wisdom in the discharge of their duties, urging them to serve with humility, dedication and integrity.
The newly elected executives were subsequently sworn into office by Deputy Director of Prisons, Charles Ameyaw, after which they pledged to uphold the association’s constitution, rules and values while working to advance its objectives.
