The Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Ms Shamima Muslim, has urged Public Relations Officers (PROs) working in various government agencies to maintain professionalism while disseminating relevant information to the public.

She emphasised that, as part of the government’s resetting agenda, the government view the PROs as partners in building a better government through policies and programmes, as well as improving their well-being and various aspects of the economy.

Speaking at the 2025 Mid-Year Performance Assessment of the PROs organised by the Information Service Department (ISD) yesterday in Accra, Ms Muslim acknowledged that while the PROs might have affiliations with certain political parties, they should remain committed to their roles and avoid sabotaging the government.

She stated that the PROs must ensure that they were consistently communicating through all available platforms with accurate information, enabling the audience or the public to understand the government’s actions and influence public opinion.

“I have every confidence that together, we will be able to overcome these obstacles and seize these opportunities to reinvent ourselves and to remain relevant. Therefore, investing in your growth, development and well-being is crucial to the government’s continuous success.

We must therefore continue to foster the culture of collaboration, cooperation and understanding to be able to achieve the mandate of the ISD” Ms Muslim said.

She added that, the ISD should focus on making a meaningful impact in the lives of the public and giving them timely information, correct information, and

being responsive to their inquiries and doing so with professionalism.

She noted that resetting the agenda as promised by the government was a collective responsibility which every Ghanaian should come on board to help the government progress, stressing that, the government was also committed to retooling the IDS to ensure it becomes effective.

The Head of Public Relations Coordinating Division of the ISD, Mrs Charlotte Hanson, said that effective October 6, 2025, the ISD would commence an annual voluntary exercise by visiting the various institutions under the ISD to interact directly with officers.

She added that plans were far advanced towards the establishment of the government, PRs Association, stressing that the essence of forming the association was for the PROs to be well organised, build stronger professional ties, support and learn from one another.

“This will operate as a cohort of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) to ensure that members of the Association align with the highest professional standards. The drafting of the Association’s constitution has been finalised.

The GOPUS awarded another important initiative for the Division to recognise the hard work and commitment of the PROs, which is also underway. It has served as a strong motivation for offices. Meanwhile, for the last three years, the award had been on hold, and we hope to organise this year,” she said.
