The Minister of Roads and Highways designate, Francis Asenso-Boakye has cut sod for the construction of the 120 kilometre Sunyani-Sampa road in the Bono Region.
The $ 125 million project solely funded solely by the government is expected to be completed in 24 months.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Jinijini at Berekum west District the Minister indicated that the project symbolises the determination of the government to develop the whole country uniformly without discriminating any part region of the country.
According to him government was committed in fixing poor road in the Bono Region to speed up socioeconomic development of the people.
Mr Asenso Boakye charged the contractor Messrs Rango Construction Limited to carry out quality work to ensure value for money .
The Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu Banahene expressed her delight for the project saying most road networks in the region are in deplorable conditions with regular complaints coming from the people.
She said the project when completed would fasttrack the cutting of food stuffs and enhance other business activities in the region and beyond.
The chief of Jinijini, Nana TuTu Asare Baffour ll on his part commended government ensuring development in the country since assuming power in 2017.
He said the free senior high school,Planting for Food and Jobs and agenda 111 projects have benefited all Ghanaians.
He however, complained about delays on the Sino-hydro road projects which had stalled and appealed for work to resume on them
He said shoddy work carried out on Drobo to sampa road which was constructed some five years ago was impacting negatively on transportation and appealed to the road Minister to sanction the contractor to serve as a deterrent to others.
Responding to the delay on the Sino-hydro road projects, the Minister said it was due to government negotiations with the International Monetary Fund which led to the Chinese contractors to abandoned site but assured them that the contractors would soon return to site to complete work.
The Minister later inspected some road networks in Sunyani and Odumasi.
