Struggling Real Tamale United (RTU) produced a great performance to hold visiting Bibiani Gold Stars 2-2 at the Berekum Gold City Park, yesterday.
Mohammed Alhassan Munkuyali scored twice to cancel goals from Prince Kwabena Owusu and Alex Aso.
RTU, who are serving a home ban following crowd violence at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, had a jerky start when they fell to a 26th minute Prince Kwabena Owusu effort.
Back from recess, the host kept pushing for the equaliser and on 52 minutes, they were rewarded for their resilience as Munkuyali tapped home after goalkeeper Yaw Osei failed to grab a cross delivered into the box.
That gingered them to double their effort but they were met with equal force from the Bibiani lads who came close to increasing the tally before the half hour mark.
Coach Frimpong Manso of Gold Stars brought on Mawuli Wayo and Appiah McCarthy for Ronald Frimpong and Eric Bosomtwi to give them an edge in midfield and upfront.
Midfield enforcer, Appiah McCarthy, held his own against the midfield of the host displaying dexterity and winning all second balls that fell to him.
Gold Stars scored in the 78th minute through striker Alex Aso who received a well-treaded pass from midfielder.
But RTU threw everything into the game and in time added on, Munkuyali popped up behind the Gold Stars backline to poke home the equaliser.
RTU pushed for the winner but the remaining three minutes was not enough for another foray into the visitor’s goal area.
