Salim Adams targets double over Hearts of Oak in return clash

• Salim Adams

Medeama SC midfielder Salim Adams is setting his sights on a second victory over his former club, Accra Hearts of Oak, when the two teams meet in Accra on the resumption of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) second round on Sunday.

Adams was the hero in the first-round encounter at TNA Park in Tarkwa, scoring the only goal that propelled the ‘Yellow and Mauves’ to the top of the league table following Match Day 17. In a post-match interview, he described the win as a reflection of the game and expressed confidence that Medeama could repeat the feat in the reverse fixture.

Playing against his former teammates proved challenging, a test Adams described as “very intensive,” but he emphasised that Medeama was prepared for the return clash. “We’ll go for a repeat against Hearts of Oak. They are a very good team; we knew they are strong and would give us problems, so we were ready,” he stated.

Adams also expressed excitement over winning the Man-of-the-Match award, dedicating it to his teammates, and vowed to replicate his performance in Accra to secure another win over the Phobians.

Medeama’s Head Coach, Ibrahim Tanko, described the first-round match as “very tactical,” noting it was a close contest that either side could have won. “It was a close contest between two experienced sides. For my side, I would say we played very well. We did everything right except goal scoring. That’s why we created very good chances but failed to score. We’ll work on that area to convert chances into goals,” he said.

Commenting on finishing the first round at the top of the table, Tanko stated that it reflects the efforts of both the technical team and playing staff. “It sounds good, but there is no particular reward for that. We have to remain focused in the second round and make sure we eschew complacency. We still have a long way to go with very difficult matches,” he added.

Hearts of Oak coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani commended Medeama for their hard work and noted that his team had created chances but failed to convert. “We created two big chances in the two halves but failed to score. Such chances must not be missed. We’ll keep working on the psyche of the players while we hope to augment the team during the current second window. We need a striker to bang in the goals for us,” he indicated.
