Sanitation Ministry inaugurates Advisory Board, Audit C’ttee

PThe Ministerial Advisory Board (MAB) and the Audit Committee (AC) of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources were yesterday inaugurated in Accra.

The core mandate of the MAB and AC are to, among others things, advise the sector Ministry on adjustments in policy direction, planning objectives, operational strategies, and to ensure that all audit reports are thoroughly implemented by management.

The formation of the two committees are in line with the Civil Service Law, 1993 (P.N.D.C.L 327) and the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (ACT 982) respectively, and it required the ministry to establish it for the execution of significant functions in the country.

Its membership include Mr Patrick Yaw Boamah and Mr Michael Yaw Gyato, both deputy ministers, Joseph Obeng-Poku, Acting Chief Director, Clifford Braimah, Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited, Hayford Baah-Adade, Internal Auditor, University of Ghana Legon, Ben Ampomah, the Chief Executive Secretary of Water Resources Commission and Nana Kwodwo Condua VI, Omanhene of Elmina Traditional Area in the Central Region.

 The rest were Worlanyo Kwadwjo Siabi, Chief Executive Officer of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Dr Ibrahim Bedi, lecturer, University of Ghana, Mrs Margaret Mpare, community development specialist, Joseph K Amoah, Director, Finance and Administration of the Ministry, Dr Bertha Darteh, a sanitation management consultant, Isaac Alex Darko of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Wilfred Addo, Chief Internal Auditor and Joseph Obeng-Poku, acting Director of the Ministry.

Mrs Cecilia Dapaah, the sector Minister who administered the oath of office, urged the members “to take their positions in high esteem, seek the interest of the state and ensure transparency, accountable and accessible leadership in the performance of their duties.”

She advised them to be prepared to cooperate and offer the needed support in the discharge of their responsibilities.

 “Therefore, it is unquestionable that the success or failure of the ministry in delivering on its mandate depends, to a large extent, on how well you perform,” Mr Dapaah stated.

She lauded the members for accepting to serve on the board as a call to national duty.

Dr Bertha Darteh, member of the MAB on behalf of her colleagues acknowledged the various roles assigned, adding that they would work hard to build on their success.
