As part of its ongoing 15th anniversary celebrations, the Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF) has continued its EmpowerGhana Smile Campaign, a long-running project to bring joy and essential items to vulnerable and school-going children in public schools.

Through the campaign, SCEF, in partnership with Send a Smile e.V. (Germany), have distributed 858 smile bags to vulnerable and school-going children in public schools in Ga South, Accra Metro, SCEF scholarship recipients, and Dabala, as well as to children residing at the Smile Boarding House, this year.

The bags contained essential items such as hygiene materials, clothing, school supplies, and sweet treats.

According to recent statistics, Ghana continues to grapple with the issue of child poverty and vulnerability, with thousands of children in need of support.

“I was so happy when I got my smile bag,” said Ama, a Primary 4 pupil and beneficiary of the EmpowerGhana Smile Campaign. “I got new clothes, shoes, and pencils. I feel happy and I can go to school now.”

In addition to the EmpowerGhana Smile Campaign, SCEF and Send a Smile e.V. also provide comprehensive support to street-connected children through the Smile Boarding House, where 50 children receive educational and health support under the supervision of trained social workers.

SCEF’s 15th-anniversary celebrations will continue with a ‘Sharing is Caring’ event on February 15, to bring together 200 vulnerable children and their families for a day of activities focused on their health, well-being, and empowerment.

The event will take place at the SCEF Learning Hub, located at Jamestown-Palladium.

As SCEF continues to support vulnerable children in Ghana, the organisation is calling on individuals and organisations to join forces in making a difference in the lives of these children. You can support SCEF’s efforts by partnering with them, becoming a godparent, volunteering, or advocating for the rights and well-being of vulnerable children.

“Together, we can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in Ghana,” said Paul Semeh, Executive Director of SCEF. “We invite you to join us on this journey of transforming lives and creating a brighter future for all,” he indicated.
