Star Oil Company has refurbished the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Worawora Government Hospital in the Oti Region to deliver quality healthcare to the community.

With a staff strength of 400 both clinical and non- clinical, the hospital serves as a referral centre

for all the sub district facilities and neighbouring districts in the region.

At a ceremony to hand over the facility, Dr Osei Kuffour Afreh, Oti Regional Director of Health Service, indicated that the expansion of the facility formed part of the contribution by stakeholders in order to improve and expand access to quality health care delivery in the region

He noted that the Oti Regional Health Directorate since its creation about four years ago had performed excellently well.

According to him, effective management of all forms of emergences in the hospital required skilful and competent staff to provide timely expert interventions.

Additionally, Dr Afreh said that it was in view of this that the expansion of the facility was timely and would be relief to staff as the unit in the hospital was always crowded.

He stated that it was the need for corporate organisations and benevolent individuals to collaborate with the directorate to retool health facilities in the region in the quest to achieve the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.

In his contribution, Torgbui Xornametor, the Board Chairman of Star Oil Company, emphasised that this was not the first time the company had extended its support to the Worawora Hospital.

He said the company had renovated the Padiatric Unit some years ago, and adding this was not going to be the last time.

Torgbui Xornametor expressed the hope that the facility, having been upgraded to an ultra- modern status, would “rewrite the narrative” about our morbidity and mortality data.

In his welcome address, Dr Joseph Mawunyo Apeadido, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, noted that emergency medicine was a crucial aspect of health care system to save lives.

In her remarks, Nana AbenaSafore Awenewa II, Paramount Queenmother of Worawora Traditional Area, commended the Star Oil Company for its kind gesture and thanked the staff of the hospital for their dedication to work in the area.
