Taekwondo: 15th Korean Ambassador Championship rescheduled

The 15th edition of the Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship has been rescheduled to August 21-22 at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.

Consequently, the weighing and balloting process will be held on August 20, at the Korean Sports Complex from 10am – 2pm.

The rescheduling, according to the Organising Committee of the event, was to observe the state funeral ceremony to be held tomorrow for the victims that perished in the helicopter crash last Wednesday.

“In observance of the national funeral ceremony declared by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, August 15, 2025, for the victims of the recent tragic helicopter crash, the Organising Committee, in consultation with the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, has rescheduled the 2025 Korean Ambassador’s Cup Championship,” the Committee said a in press statement.

The Organising Committee had urged all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators to take note of the new date that had been set for the championship.

The 15th Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship hosted by the Korean Embassy in collaboration with the GTF was initially scheduled to take place on August 15-16, at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.

The event is significant for Taekwondo in Ghana as it helps in showcasing talents and providing a platform for athletes to compete at the national level.

It also serves as a platform to prepare athletes for potential participation in the 2026 Youth Olympics to be held in Senegal.
