The Queen Mother of Nyive Clan of Abutia-Teti, Mama Atonuwor V, has stressed the need for the youth to take advantage of the available opportunities in education to develop themselves to ensure a brighter future.
Mama Atonuwor said it was important for the youth to develop interests in the various skill training programmes at the technical and vocational institutions to acquire employable skills that would enable them to become economically independent.
Speaking at her outdooring ceremony at Abutia-Teti in the Ho West District of the Volta Region on Saturday, Mama Atonuworannounced that promotion of education, health, and empowerment of the youth were top priorities of her development agenda.
She promised to work closely with chiefs and queen mothers in the traditional area, to empower the youth to generate wealth for themselves as a way of eradicating teenage pregnancy , which she said was deeply rooted in poverty.
She urged the youth to cherish and preserve the cultural values of the country for development, saying it was important to educate our daughters to boldly dream of a future and young men to be cultured to respect and honour traditional values and virtues.
“I will work hard to promote rapid transformation of the Nyive Clan and the Abutia Traditional Area, saying,“Leadership is not about power but responsibility, compassion and unity, and development of the values of truth, honesty and acquisition of skills.”
The new Queen Mother, known in private life as Stella AfuaAmedzroMohenu aged 55, holds MBA and First Degree in Human Resource Management and works with the Social Security and National Investment Trust (SSNIT).
The Paramount Chief of Abutia Traditional Area, and the President of the Abutia Traditional Council (ATC) TogbegaAbutiaKodzoGidi V, welcomed Mama Atonuwor to the ATC after swearing-in the new Queen Mother into the Council.
TogbegaGidi administered the oaths of secrecy, allegiance, the oath of a member of the Judicial Committee of the ATC, and stressed the need for her to strictly adhere to the oaths taken since they played an important role in her leadership as a traditional ruler and a member of the Judicial Committee of the Council.
The President of the Abutia Traditional Council, advised Mama Atonuwor to work diligently with chiefs and queen mothers, and deliberate on development of Abutia for the benefit of the present and future generations.
The Ho- West District Chief Executive, Mr Francis Proffer Dusey, said the Assembly appreciated the peace and unity the people of Abutia continued to enjoy under the dynamic leadership of the Paramount Chief of the area, and urged Mama Atonuwor to deepen the peace and facilitate development of the area.
