The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John Mburidiba, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tatale-Sanguli, Ms Mary Tagba, have cut the sod for the construction of a new fire station in the district.

The project, which is being funded from the district’s allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), is expected to be completed within 12 months by the contractor, Messrs Kpa-Nyambika Construction Limited.

Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, Mr Mburidiba said the new fire station, when completed, would boost emergency response and enhance public safety in the district.

He stated that the construction of the facility formed part of the government’s commitment to decentralise emergency services and bring them closer to rural communities.

The Regional Minister added that the government was working with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure that development reached the people.

He said the government remained committed to fulfilling promises made to Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign.

Mr Mburidiba also urged residents to cooperate with personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and take fire safety education seriously in their communities.

The Tatale-Sanguli DCE, Ms Mary Tagba, said the absence of a fire station in the district had long been a major concern for chiefs and residents.

She explained that the district urgently needed a dedicated fire station due to increasing fire outbreaks and delays in emergency response.

Ms Tagba expressed optimism that the facility, when completed, would help reduce the impact of fire disasters in the area.

She added that the project would also create employment opportunities for local youth during and after construction.

The DCE assured that the assembly would closely monitor the contractor to ensure quality work and timely completion.

The Northern Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer One (ACFO I) Joseph Koranteng, said the facility would serve as an operational base for the Ghana National Fire Service, support public safety education, and strengthen collaboration with local authorities.

He called on all stakeholders to support the timely completion of the project for the benefit of the district.

On behalf of the chiefs, Mba Kwame Kofi expressed appreciation to the government for the intervention and pledged land and community support to ensure the successful completion of the project.
