The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bantama Constituency, Francis Asenso-Boakye over the weekend opened the maiden edition of an U-14 football competition in Bantama, Kumasi.
The competition, dubbed ‘Asenso-Boakye U-14 Ball-Paa tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday, December 11-12, 2021 with eight teams in attendance.
They were Kotoko Babies, Hearts Babies, Adonko Angels, Unity Oil Stars, This Way Special Ice Stars, Kennedy Agyapong Net 2 Babies, Set Mineral Waters, Zoomlion Conquerors and Obibinii Blackman FC.
After an exciting display, Kennedy Agyapong Net2 and Obibinii Blackman FC made it to the final. Obibinii Blackman FC subsequently won on penalties after a goalless draw.
According to the lawmaker, who is also the Minister for Works and Housing, the purpose of the tournament was to unearth football talents in the constituency.
He said it would create the much needed platform for the kids in the constituency to exhibit their talents.
He said Bantama in the past had produced some of the best players Ghana has had including Akwasi Appiah, Prince OpokuPolley and Sarfo Gyamfi and expressed the hope that more would be created through the game.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, Nana Yaw Amponsah who was the Special Guest of honour, expressed excitement at the talents on display at the maiden tournament.
