The Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced a trader to 15 years imprisonment for defiling his wife’s 12-year-old niece at Afuaman, near Ablekumah, in the Greater Accra Region.

The court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann, found Amadu Moro, 53, guilty on the charge of defilement.

Handing the sentence, the court said it found accused guilty, following the scrutiny of evidence, careful consideration of the charge, exhibits and the applicable law.

According to the Court, it also considered the intrinsic seriousness of the offence, degree of revulsion and the premeditation.

Inspector OpokuAniagyei said that the complainant is a housewife, and the victim is the complainant’s niece.

He said Moro is the husband of the complainant and they both resided at Mahean Afuaman in the Greater Accra Region.

Insp Aniagyei said in October 2021, the complainant woke up in the night to urinate and saw accused having sexual intercourse with the victim.

Prosecution said the complainant reported the case to the police at Nima, and a medical form was issued to the complainant to seek medical treatment for the victim.

InspAniagyei said accused, who was nabbed by the police, denied the offence in his caution statement, but police medical report revealed the victim had been defiled. – GNA
