Traditional authorities tasked to join crusade against corruption

CRUSADE- The traditional authorities at the workshop

Traditional authorities have been tasked to join the crusade against corruption by forming anti-corruption educational groups in their communities to campaign against all forms of corrupt practices in the society.

Their contribution towards the full realisation of the country’s social, economic, religious and cultural hope and aspirations is important because they are revered by society.

Sekyi Sam, Agona West Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), tasked the traditional authorities at a durbar organised by the Commission at Agona-Nyakrom to sensitise and educate traditional authorities drawn from Agona Nsaba and the Agona-Nyakrom Traditional Areas on matters affecting national progress and cohesion.

It formed part of NCCE’s Anti-Corruption, Rule of Law and Accountability Programme (ARAP) to sensitise and educate them on issues of corruption, promote good governance and national cohesion.

One hundred and twenty handouts containing all the guidelines governing the operation of the National Health Insurance policy and ARAP were distributed to the participants.

Mr Sam observed that “the introduction of the Whistleblowers Act is purposefully designed to involve the citizenry in their efforts at making the country a corruption-free nation”.

Isaac Nelson, Public Relations Officer of the Agona District branch of the National Health Insurance Authority, commended the traditional authorities for their high sense of nationalism coupled with their deep motherly love for nation building and national cohesion.

“The assurance given by the traditional authorities will serve as a great source of encouragement to propel workers of the National Health Insurance Authority in the district to work harder to maintain and sustain the health of people in your operational areas,” and he appealed to them “not to hesitate to point out the mistakes of the National Health Insurance Authority employees in the district to assist and support them to correct their shortfalls.”

Nana Tutuah V, President of the Agonaman Traditional Council Queen-Mothers Association, who presided over the function, assured both the National Commission on Civic Education and the National Health Insurance Authority of the traditional authorities’ readiness to involve themselves in vital national educational activities. -GNA
