PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama has called on African governments, financiers and industrialists to treat health as an investable economic sector and not as a social expenditure, to achieve health sovereignty for the continent.
Delivering the keynote address at the Health Plenary of the Africa Forum in El Alamein, Egypt, on Saturday, on the theme: “Investing in Health Manufacturing and Regional Value Chain”, President Mahama said achieving health sovereignty for Africa’s 1.4 billion people would require capital, industrial capacity and political will.
The Alamein Africa Forum brought together Heads of State, Ministers, officials of the African Union, and leaders of African business and industry.
President Mahama said for decades, African Finance Ministers and global investors had treated health as a line-item cost to be funded only when resources were available, a perception he said must change. Read More
