Tribute to Mr David Azey Adeenze Kangah – Founding Headmaster of ZAMSETECH EDUCATION

“Education is not merely the learning of facts, but the shaping of character, the nurturing of minds, and the preparation of leaders who will transform society. Those who dedicate their lives to this calling leave a legacy that transcends generations.”

The old students of Zamse Secondary Technical School (ZAMSETECH) mourn the passing of Mr David Azey Adeenze Kangah, the school’s first Headmaster, an extraordinary educator, and a visionary leader whose tireless dedication shaped generations of students and the future of education in Ghana.

From its humble beginnings in 1976 at Awogyea Middle School, then Bolgatanga Junior Secondary School (BOJUSS), Mr Kangah faced the challenges of building a new school with remarkable foresight and determination. As one of the few experimental junior high schools established under the Gen. I. K. Acheampong regime, the school required leadership that could inspire both staff and students. Mr Kangah rose to the occasion, laying the foundation for what has become one of the region’s leading secondary technical institutions.

In 1979, when the school was relocated to its current site, tensions arose between the Pobaga and Tindonmolgo communities, each desiring the school to bear their name. With characteristic wisdom, Mr Kangah proposed a neutral and meaningful name: “Zamse,” meaning “learning.” This thoughtful decision not only resolved the conflict peacefully but gave the school an identity rooted in purpose, unity, and vision—a name that continues to inspire all who pass through its doors.

He was an affable, humble, and calm individual, approachable and deeply committed to the progress of Ghana, always attentive to those who sought his guidance. An educationist, prominent national figure, and member of Ghana’s Council of State in 2012, Mr Kangah distinguished himself not only as a dedicated public servant but also as an accomplished peace broker. His expertise in conflict resolution took him across Ghana, Africa, Asia, and beyond, where he was called upon to monitor elections and share his knowledge and experience in governance, education, and leadership.

Under his leadership, ZAMSETECH became more than an academic institution. It became a place where discipline, innovation, integrity, and leadership were cultivated. Alumni recall how Mr Kangah’s guidance went beyond textbooks; he encouraged critical thinking, perseverance, and service to others, shaping students into responsible citizens ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

Even in retirement, Mr Kangah remained deeply committed to ZAMSETECH, tirelessly seeking projects, liaising with government agencies, and mobilizing resources to improve the school’s facilities. His energy, vision, and unwavering dedication were evident to all who interacted with him—proof that his love for the school and its students never waned.

His contributions were recognized at the highest levels, with the school expanding its facilities and consolidating at its permanent site. Yet, the greatest testament to his legacy is found in the lives he touched—the students he mentored, the teachers he guided, and the alumni who continue to carry his principles into their own communities.

As we reflect on his life, we extend our deepest gratitude for his lifelong service, wisdom, and commitment. Mr Kangah was not only a headmaster; he was a mentor, a visionary, a national leader, and a pillar of wisdom whose influence will continue to resonate for generations.

Rest peacefully, Sir. Your legacy lives on in every achievement, every student, and every corner of ZAMSETECH. You have shaped not just a school, but generations of leaders.
