The National Tripartite Committee has begun negotiations to determine the minimum wage and base pay for the 2025 fiscal year.
Comprising representatives from the government, employers, and organised labour, the negotiations for the minimum wage commenced on Monday.
“Negotiations for base pay (for public sector salaries) will follow that of the minimum wage,” a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said.
According to the statement, negotiations for both the minimum wage and the base pay for the 2025 financial year are behind schedule as they were expected to be completed by the end of April 2024, per the Public Financial Management Act.
In view of this, the statement called on the social partners – government, employers, organised labour – to work expeditiously to complete the negotiations in time to inform the 2025 Budget.
The minimum wage which was increased from GH¢14.88 in 2023 to GH¢18.15 in 2024 is expected to be reviewed upwards for 2025 considering the increased cost of living over the 2024 financial year.
The new wage regime is expected to take effect from January 1, 2025.
