The Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency has come under the spotlight in recent times due to the huge role it is playing in the promotion and development of football in Ghana.

Tuba Metro Stars was a popular  team in the area. Mostly a Moslem community, the area comes alive during match days as residents come together to support the team that kept the area in the media space.

Having failed to reach the pinnacle of their campaign – qualification to the elite stage of football, football activities took a nosedive for some time until the construction of a modern sports facility in the constituency under the leadership of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Sylvester Tetteh.

What used to be an ordinary park for locals in the Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency has witnessed a phase lift and has boost sports in the area to help the youth nurture their talent.

And for the MP of the area, Mr Sylvester Tetteh, popular referred to as Sly, the project is more for recreation and sports promotion in the area than scoring points for the upcoming general election.

“It is as a result of my hard work in the constituency for the last three years. It has exposed the constituency to the entire region as people now travel from various distances to our constituency to watch football,” Sly said in an interaction with the media.

The modern day Astro turf, cited in Tuba, near Kokrobite is one of the major social intervention programmes executed by the MP.

The 5,000-seater facility now serve as the adopted home ground of Ghana Premier League (GPL) side, Dreams FC, with former GPL side now campaigning in the Division One League (DOL), Accra Great Olympics, the next in line to adopt the facility.

The FIFA standard Astro turf houses two changing rooms (Home and Away), stands for fans, floodlights to accommodate late matches, a VVIP Stands and others.

The MP said in an interview that, “The Astro turf is one of the many social intervention programmes my team and I have executed and l must admit, it is serving the intended purpose of nurturing sporting talents and serving as a recreational centre for the community to encourage healthy lifestyle.

“We have been able to touch on our road network; a major challenge that confronts the community, especially during rainy seasons. You will bear with me that Kokrobite has a huge tourism potential taking into account the many beaches dotted along the coast. The reconstruction of the road, especially the Old Barrier to Kokrobite stretch will boost tourism in the area.”
