The United Party (UP) has congratulated the Ghana national U-20 women’s football team, the Black Princesses, on their qualification to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after overcoming Uganda in the final qualifying round.
The Black Princesses booked the qualification after holding their Uganda counterparts in Kampala following a 2-1 first-leg victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a statement signed by the party’s Communication Director and Spokesperson, Solomon Owusu, the party praised the coaching staff, management and players for what it described as a courageous and patriotic performance throughout the two-legged encounter.
According to the United Party, the team’s determination, dedication and fighting spirit displayed away from home served as a strong example of resilience and national pride.
“The courage, determination, dedication and above all the patriotism that was exhibited by the team in faraway Kampala was heart-warming and establishes a can-do spirit template for our country,” portions of the statement said.
The party further reiterated its commitment to supporting sports development in Ghana, particularly women’s football, stressing that the achievement of the Black Princesses deserved national recognition and support.
The United Party also called on the government to give women’s football the same level of attention and investment accorded the senior national men’s team, the Black Stars.
The qualification marks another significant milestone for women’s football in Ghana as the Black Princesses prepare to represent the country on the global stage at the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
