US investigates gunfire near White House

US President Donald Trump's administration has been cracking down on migration

The United States Secret Service is investigating reports of gunfire heard near the White House early Sunday morning.

Officers responded shortly after midnight to reports of shots fired in the area around Lafayette Park, located just north of the president’s residence. A search of the park and surrounding areas was conducted, but no suspect was found and no injuries were reported.

Authorities said they are currently looking for a possible vehicle and a person of interest as investigations continue.

At the time of the incident, Donald Trump was in Washington DC for the Easter weekend. The Secret Service confirmed that operations at the White House remain normal, although a heightened security posture has been implemented.

The situation led to temporary road closures in the area, but these have since been reopened, according to officials.

A spokesperson for the Secret Service later confirmed that investigations are ongoing, while White House officials indicated that the president continued his scheduled activities, including hosting a family Easter dinner.
