Ghana’s mining sector is set for a major lift as Asanko Gold Ghana Limited extends its partnership with indigenous contractor Rabotec Ghana Limited in a $400 million deal that will generate more than 8,000 jobs while deepening local participation and value retention. The landmark agreement signed on Monday, cements a proven relationship and underscores a deliberate strategy to anchor wealth within the domestic economy.
The contract, expected to support 3,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs, will strengthen domestic supply chains, spur enterprise development, and expand opportunities for Ghanaian businesses. Asanko’s Managing Director, Dr Charles Amoah, said the decision was rooted in Rabotec’s consistent delivery on safety, production and operational reliability. “This builds on a long-standing relationship and reflects the next phase of our work together,” he noted, stressing that the expanded scope aligns with Ghana’s Local Content agenda.
For Rabotec, whose workforce is fully Ghanaian, the deal marks a milestone in its evolution from modest scopes of work to large-scale mining operations. Chief Executive Officer Alhaji Ali Ibrahim described the agreement as “a partnership built on years of delivery, discipline and proven capability,” adding that the company has spent over $8 million on local suppliers in the past two years—further multiplying the job creation impact across Ghanaian enterprises.
The Minerals Commission Chief Executive, who witnessed the ceremony, commended both firms for advancing Ghanaian participation through a performance-led partnership. He described the deal as a practical demonstration of local content policy in action and pledged the Commission’s full support.
Beyond Ghana, Rabotec is expanding its footprint into Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali and Mauritania, underscoring the growing competitiveness of Ghanaian-owned mining services firms. For Asanko, the contract extension reinforces a disciplined approach to responsible mining—linking operational performance with measurable economic value through job creation, skills development and long-term enterprise growth.
