The provisional results of private candidates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been released with the results of three candidates withheld.
A total number of 1,661 candidates, comprising 858 males and 803 females, took part in the examination, which was conducted at 15 examination centres across the country, out of which three were absent.
According to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in a press statement issued and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, and copied The Ghanaian Times on Friday, the results of the three candidates had been withheld for their involvement in cases of irregularity.
It also said that further investigations would be conducted into the cases, and the candidates will be informed on the next line of action.
The Council urged candidates whose results had been cancelled or withheld to visit its official website to find out the reasons for cancellation and withholding of results.
“Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld should visit the https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the withheld/cancelled button on the home page. They will be redirected to irregularity and investigation page. This page will display the reasons for withholding and cancelling of results”, it stated.
The Council cautioned all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who pose as WAEC officials and promised to upgrade results for a fee while urging candidates to note that WAEC results were secured and authenticated.
It again expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who in diverse ways supported in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
The private BECE began in 2015 to give candidates who did not perform well in the examination that year the opportunity to improve on their grades to continue with their education.
It received patronage in the maiden examination in 2015 where a total of 1,181 candidates registered.
