Assemblies of God (AG) has launched the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress, Ghana, with a call to advance the global church’s evangelism and mission agenda and to deepen its commitment to discipleship.

The congress, scheduled for October 14 to 16, 2026, is expected to draw more than 10,000 pastors, ministers, and church leaders from across the world, making it one of the largest Christian gatherings ever hosted in Ghana.

Speaking at the launch in Accra on Friday, the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship (WAGF), Rev. Dominic Yeo, said the event was a divinely appointed opportunity for Ghana and the global church to renew their mandate of reaching every nation with the gospel.

He said the 2026 Congress, themed “Commission. One Mandate, Every Nation,” would be the first in the 110-year history of the Fellowship to be held in Africa, describing Ghana as the nation God has prepared for this historic moment because of its stability, democratic credentials, respect for the rule of law, religious tolerance, and vibrant culture.

Rev. Yeo noted that the congress would attract thousands of international delegates and boost Ghana’s economy through increased tourism, business patronage, investment exposure, and global visibility. He added that the gathering would also complement Ghana’s role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

While outlining economic benefits, he stressed that the battle against spiritual poverty remained more urgent, noting that the congress would advance the global MM33 vision of planting one million Assemblies of God churches by 2033.

Rev. Yeo also highlighted that the church, now approaching 90 million members worldwide, had become the largest Protestant denomination, with someone coming to Christ every 18 seconds through its ministry.

The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, in his address, highlighted the global footprint of the denomination, which has 89.9 million members, 51,000 local churches worldwide, and 20 million members within Africa.

He added that the Fellowship has deployed about 8,000 missionaries across more than 190 countries and invested close to 328 million dollars in missions and community development.

Rev. Wengam expressed gratitude to the global leadership for supporting Ghana and announced the formation of a local organising committee chaired by Rev. Andrews Nelson Awentia, with Madam Gifty Ejefianco heading the secretariat.

He noted that engagements with key stakeholders, including the government and the Inspector General of Police, were ongoing to ensure a successful event.

According to the organisers, the 2026 Congress will feature day plenary sessions at the Black Star Square from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with registration required, and evening revival rallies at the Accra Sports Stadium at 7 p.m. each day as a free event.

The programme will also include workshops, prayer sessions, revival meetings, and global worship celebrations led by internationally recognised ministers and gospel artistes.
